The Power of Art

Being a dedicated artist herself, Ingeborg Suhr considered it a matter close to her heart to support a variety of cultural initiatives through her foundation. By promoting young artists and setting up art installations, for instance at properties of the EUROPA-CENTER Real Estate Group, the founder puts a special focus on this topic. The revitalization of green spaces completes the agenda. Thus, a particular focus of the foundation’s work lies on projects that make urban space more sensually tangible for the public.

Vibrant Pillars

Shortly before her death in 2023, the benefactor launched an intriguing initiative with her Ingeborg Suhr Foundation. Various artists transform the formerly grey pillars beneath the Hammerbrook S-Bahn viaduct in Hamburg into vibrant works of art.

The first pillar designed in March 2024 by Julia Benz is located at Hammerbrookstraße 74. In autumn 2024, the graffiti artist Gerrit Peters, aka TASEK, then remade the next three columns. Passersby were able to witness the creative process and meet and greet with the graffiti artist. In 2025 the project continued and has grown by two further transformed columns.

Medium term the aim of the foundation is to encourage residents of Hammerbrookstraße to get involved and actively support to design further pillars of the S-Bahn viaduct, in order to turn the Gallery Passage Hammerbrook into a lively, colorful, bright, and inviting space in the district.
